On August 20th, the 68MW Sirajganj Photovoltaic Power Plant in Bangladesh successfully passed the commercial operation test conducted by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and obtained the commercial operation certificate. This marks the official entry of the project into the commercial operation phase.
The Sirajganj 68MW photovoltaic power plant project is part of the investment, construction, and operation platform, Sino-Bangladesh New Energy Company, jointly established by Genertec CMC and Northwest Power Generation Company of Bangladesh. This platform has been approved by the Bangladeshi government to have a total installed capacity of 500MW of new energy, making it the largest new energy investment, construction, and operation project by a Chinese company in Bangladesh.
Located in Rajshahi in central Bangladesh, the power plant covers a total area of 214 acres and features 157,000 photovoltaic modules. Construction of the project began in July 2022, with financial closure achieved in June 2024. On June 22, 2024, the substation successfully completed its reverse power transmission, meeting the conditions for grid connection and power generation.
Upon commencement of operations, the project will provide clean energy to 65,000 local households, equivalent to saving 43,000 tons of standard coal and reducing approximately 110,000 tons of CO2 emissions. This will significantly enhance Bangladesh's clean energy utilization, promote local green development and energy transition, and make a positive contribution to addressing global climate change.
