CMC has developed various investment businesses since the start of the 1980s and effectively facilitate the development of its main business, which is becoming the profit resource and the profit growth point of the company.

    By the end of 2000, the company has invested 81 projects in the country and the total investment is nearly RMB 600 million; its investment fields involve industry, finance and securities, shipping, real estate, and the construction of development zones, etc. and its investment modes include sole proprietorship, joint venture, joint stock, joint operation, etc..

    In the industrial field, the company has participated in the funding for one of the most famous joint ventures –Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevator Co., Ltd., and it has solely established Yantai CMC Bearing Co., Ltd.

  In the real estate field, the company has invested the landmark building in Shanghai – Jinmao Tower;
In the finance and securities field, the company has invested Bank of Communications and Industrial Bank, and has shares of stock in the powerful CITIC Securities. Also, the company has invested many listed companies such as Ningbo United Group Co. Ltd. and Sinotrans Air Transportation Development Co., Ltd.

    In addition, the company starts to aggressively expand the investment and financing businesses of various industrial projects overseas. The company is intended to invest and finance nearly US$ 500 million to the Sonda-Jherruk Integrated Coal Mine & Power Plant project in Pakistan and has been actively approaching its partners. Also, it will invest a lot of energy-related projects such as Vietnam Binh Minh coal mine.

    At present, the company has placed the investment and financing businesses of the projects in the important parts of its upgrade so as to better avoid its business risk while gaining profits and guarantee the security and fluidity of the investment.
